Author: Kate Waters
There are many good reasons to start exercising and in fact few if any good ones not to exercise. As long as you have your doctor’s approval there is nothing stopping you and with a bit of research everyone can find some form of exercise that they will enjoy. It doesn’t have to be running on cold, wet, dark mornings.
Here are some good reasons to exercise, read them and then see if you can think of as many good reasons not to exercise!
Weight control
When you exercise you burn calories and the more you exercise the more you burn up. Exercise will help stop you gaining weight and help you to shed weight. You can burn up more calories throughout the day just by altering a few things and you don’t even have to go to the gym. For example, try walking up stairs instead of taking the elevator. If you have time, get off the bus a stop earlier than usual and walk the rest of the way. Walk across the office to give your colleague that message instead of emailing. Up the pace of your normal walking, daily activities and chores. Put some music on and get dancing while you do that housework.
Exercise gives you more energy
The great thing about exercising is that it gives you more energy, which in turn of course makes you want to be more active. Exercise and physical activity makes your heart and lungs work more efficiently, increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients around the body, boosting energy levels.
Exercise prevents some serious health problems
Exercise keeps the blood flowing smoothly, reducing the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases. The list of health problems that are related to lack of exercise include not only heart disease but also strokes, type 2 diabetes, depression, arthritis, certain types of cancers and many more. Exercise for seniors also helps with strength and balance noticeably reducing the incidences of falls, leading to increased dependency.
Feel good factor
Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that will leave you feeling relaxed and in a more positive mood. Exercising regularly will also make you feel better about your appearance which in turn boosts confidence and self- esteem.
Improve your love life
The boost to your self-esteem from looking and feeling better not to mention all that extra energy will do wonders for your sex life. The extra bedroom activity is also a great form of exercise and way to burn off those calories.
Sleep better
After all that extra activity you will find that you will fall asleep faster and have a much more refreshing sleep. However be careful exercising too close to bedtime as that buzz of energy that boosts your activity levels during the day, may also stop you getting off to sleep.
Whatever you choose to do you only need to do 30 minutes a day to start seeing and feeling these great benefits.
