What Happens When Someone Stops SmokingArticle #848

Author: Matt Seweryniak

Smokers know that they should quit. They realize that smoking will eventually ruin their health, cost them obscene amounts of money, and cause them to live a shorter life. Smoking causes all kinds of havoc and problems with your sinuses and lungs, and makes it hard to breathe and do any normal everyday activities.

Most smokers think of quitting, but many of them don’t seriously want to quit. You have to really, really want to quit in order to stop smoking. The only way that you will be able to stop is if you are 100% sure that you want to quit, and that no one else is forcing you too. The only person that can work hard enough to save you is yourself

What makes cigarettes so appealing is it’s ability to handle stress. Whenever something stressful happens, the first thing that a smoker does is get out a cigarette. In the end, cigarettes only make life more stressful. Smoking raises your pulse and blood pressure to the point where it will cause even greater stress.

A person that uses cigarettes when they are stressed may be able to quit when things are going relatively well, but will relapse as soon as their life becomes more stressful. In order for them to quit they will have to find a way to deal with stress as it comes before they stop smoking. There are many different options, but the person must find their own anwser to the problem that they can do every time in order to beat stress.

Before someone tries to quit, they suggest that they take a look at all of the reasons and triggers that may cause a person to smoke, and then remove those from their life so that it is easier to stay away from cigarettes.

When people stop smoking, they start to experience nicotine withdrawl. A person going through nicotine withdrawl will become grouchy and irritated, and will not be able to cope with anything that causes them discomfort or stress. Every small thing that gets in their way becomes a huge obstacle. I had a friend who said that he wanted to pick up every single thing that he saw and threw it as far as he could for the whole entire day.

When people quit, some of them will become very gittery and nervous, so much so that they can only sleep for a few hours a day. On the other extreme, people will be so tired that they cannot get out of bed to go to work. The cigarette detox can take up to 2 weeks before you start to feel better, but most people only have withdrawl symptoms for the first 5-7 days. Once they finally are over the hump, they will start to feel even better than they did before they decided to quit smoking.

After a person has quit smoking for 4 weeks, they are usually very happy and amazed by how they feel. Some people can’t believe how much they have changed and they feel like they have been missing out on life because cigarettes were keeping them tired and out of energy. No matter how old a person is, they should consider quitting. Even if a person is so old that they could die at any minute, the person should still consider quitting because then they will be able to be enjoy life a lot more even if it is for a little bit. The longer a person smokes, the more they are losing out on their chance to save their life. In a few years, the person can be back to the same risk of disease as a non smoker, so it is never to late to stop smoking.
