Is online dating for desperate People?

Online dating is frowned upon in society as a sign of desperation. ‘Lonely’ and ‘unsociable’ are the description given to those who choose to meet singles online.

Dating services online are seen as a big scam and a way for people to make money from lonely people.

I used to think like that and even sometimes still think it’s for desperate folks. But wait and think about what type of society are we living in? We are living in one of the most closed societies mankind has ever seen, and I will Illustrate why.

We are so dependent on technology that the average person has a computer, satellite, cable, land line and/ or cell phone. Now can you tell me what these gadgets are for? It is very simple– Communications.

The mode of communications has been taken from Physical contact to electronic contact. The more gadgets are made, the more we are electronically connected to each other. This means the more lonely you will become. Physical contact satisfies our needs to be human, without that we are robots.

So in one sense we are all desperate not by choice but by necessity.

Social activist are one way that people can meet offline instead of online. However the busy schedule does not allow that. Not everyone is off on Saturdays or Sundays. Some people work at night and some during the day. So people are bound to be lonely and desperate.

The other side of this is because of our different off schedule we are bound not to meet people off line. We cannot go to the bars or pubs or beaches on Saturdays and when we are off and head to the beach; there is no one.

So there is one and only one solution thanks to the internet, meeting online.

When you visit free online dating sites, or paid dating sites I do not believe you are desperate. I believe you are taking advantage of the internet to see if you can find love.

Dating websites like and ‘Plenty of Fish’ offer simple dating solutions to people who can find love next door.

Another thing is long distance love is easier with dating websites than traveling in the hope to meet someone. And it is also cost effective.

Instead of paying money to travel around the world to meet someone, with one click of the button, you are connected to the outside world.

In conclusion, meeting singles online and match making is not for the desperate but it’s a solution for people whose schedule does not allow them to meet people near them. It is also for people who are not sociable; but as you find out if you meet a date online one way or the other, you have to be sociable or else it won’t really work.
