Reality…What a Concept: You Can Choose

While watching a series of old programs on television today it reminded me of  how easy it is to change our perception of things and as a result our feelings.  I watched Bonanza, The Big Valley, and The Wild Wild West in a row.  I mention the programs not only to bring to light when the shows aired (1960s-1970s) but also to the western themes.  At first it wasn’t intended to continue to keep watching one right after the other.  It was just so enjoyable I didn’t want to stop– it was comforting.  Watching these G-rated shows brings out the nostalgic side of me.  Although they are usually filled with some kind of action, they aren’t graphic or offensive in nature.  And they often times have some kind of moral in the story that leaves you feeling good.

Sometimes in this day and age people forget how easy it is to feel good just through a simple shift in awareness.  Because many times since we just go with the flow, we forget we are creating the reality that is making us feel like crap.  Often people can get so consumed in what is considered “normal” nowadays and think they can do nothing about it.

Psychologist Dr. Wayne Dyer once used the term, “suspension of disbelief”; this is what happens when we go to movies.  You might say you leave your personal reality at the door and suspend your disbelief of what you are watching for the time you are in the theater.  Think about it: all your emotions of your “life” are put on hold so you can fully experience your emotions of what you are watching– this is your choosing.  You have chosen to feel different because of the situation you have decided, or should I say created for yourself?  It’s not that deep.

We do this every day, however some don’t want to or don’t like to admit it.  Talk about a simple antidote to create happiness.
