You’ve made that decision. You are going to toss out the cigarettes for good this time. You are taking steps to quit smoking and will stay with it. Very first of all pat yourself on the back for taking the 1st step of making the decision. No stop smoking pill or strategy or program in the world will stop you smoking if you don’t make the commitment to quit.

Some folks can go cold turkey and quit just like that, but 95% of them do not stay nonsmokers. Having a plan to adhere to and taking some beginner steps will give you a head start on quitting and staying quit.

Stop Trying to Quit. When you say that you are “trying” something it implies you are checking it out to determine if it functions or you like it. Alter trying to carrying out. I’ve stopped smoking. I am quitting cigarettes. Words are powerful, use their power.

Set a Date. Pick a date 2 weeks to a month from now as your quit date. Give yourself some time to work up to the thought and cut back. Circle the date in red in your calendar, in your phone, on your mirror. Do not make it a D-day, make it a day to work towards.

Make Smoking Uncomfortable. Only smoke outdoors. Right now that’s just about a given as most public buildings do not allow smoking inside. Do not sit in your auto or smoke inside your house. Outdoors in the cold or the rain. Bet you didn’t want that cigarette that badly after all!

Cut Smoking in Half. Only permit yourself to smoke half of a cigarette at any time, no matter what.

Stop Beating Yourself Up. It takes most smokers three to four attempts at quitting before they stop for good. Its tough, its a genuine addiction. For those who don’t make it this time, determine what made you light up once again and use that data for the next time.

The most essential thing is that you have taken steps to quit smoking and made the selection to do it. It may possibly take more than once, but stick with it as the benefits are worth the effort.
