How to Meet People Easily

Everything in life is about connections. Meeting people is the key to building a prosperous life. Whether you need to sell a product, buy a product, or service, you must meet people and deal with them. Getting people to like you is always beneficial. Now, keep in mind, not EVERYONE is going to like you or love you, in fact, some may even hate you, however; there are things you can do that will produce maximum likeability. Do something that shows your vulnerability. The quickest way to get people to notice you and like you is to do something slightly embarrassing – notice I said, “slightly.” You don’t want to go too overboard; otherwise, you’ll just end up looking stupid. It should be something simple like tripping while you walk, or spilling a little bit of your drink, and then laughing at yourself. The idea is to show you are human and your humor. You want to convey the idea that you don’t take yourself too seriously. By doing this, you make yourself approachable. This also keeps you from looking snobby or aloof, (an absolute no-no).

Be confident when you talk with people. Compliments are great to start with. Being a female, I always feel as though we have an advantage when it comes to this…one great secret that always works, if you are a woman, is to flirt with the women you meet! NO, it doesn’t mean you’re gay or anything like that; you just need to be flirty. Giving a woman a compliment, make sure it sounds genuine, is one of the easiest ways for women to meet and socialize with other women. This secret is pure gold and works really well if you’re in a business where you have to work face-to-face with people. Remember to be subtle, again, don’t overdo it but, just being flirty will take you really far.

Now, if you’re male, it’s a little different. You don’t want to come across terribly flirty with women you want to be relaxed. When it comes to other men that may be around, you DO want to be very friendly with them and introduce yourself. This is a MUST if you’re a man and trying to pick up a woman who is part of a large group. Make sure to acknowledge the other men. Don’t treat them like competition otherwise, you WILL lose.

Another thing that works every time is having or carrying around some kind of conversational piece. This can be anything from a funky hat, colored cigarettes, cigarette holders (think “Breakfast at Tiffany’s), ect. Anything that makes people come up to you and says, “Where did you get THAT from?” Be sure to answer with, “Someone gave it to me,” then go into some conversation with them. That tells the person that others love you and give you things. Eventually, it will be true. People WILL buy you gifts that you can use as other conversational pieces. The reason this works so well is because, people will come to you. Also, be sure to look out for others who do this. You can go up to those people and meet them very easily because; you know what your opening line will be. All you need is an “in,” a start, and you can have a great conversation with anyone.

Listen and let people talk about themselves and they will love you! Keep things light and humorous; don’t spend too long with one person, you want to meet lots of people. Meeting people is fun and after awhile, it’s addictive. The more you go out and socialize, the more you will develop your own strategies in meeting people. When you’re in business, you need to learn to develop your people skills and going out and meeting people, making connections, is so important!
